Miguel Almirón’s agent, Daniel Campos, has confirmed that although there was an approach from Arsenal for the winger, that’s as far as it went.

Speaking directly to Sport Witness, Campos admitted that Almirón would be ‘delighted’ to play for Arsenal but he seemed more convinced that if something was to happen, it wouldn’t be right now.

“Actually there was an approach, but it didn’t go any further,” Campos revealed.

“I see it more for the future.”

About the potential price for his client, he said, “That’s up to Lanús. But around €10m.”

He added, “No doubt he’d be delighted to play in the Premier League and for Arsenal.”

It’s refreshing to hear an agent being so honest about a big club’s interest – or lack thereof – in their client. Usually, they’re deliberately vague but Campos has laid it all out. Of course, him comments don’t directly rule out a move for the 22-year-old Paraguayan international but he does heavily imply that nothing will happen.

Almirón was the last player that Arsenal seemed to be genuinely linked with this window, so it stands to reason that we probably won’t be signing anyone else (except Shkodran Mustafi perhaps) on transfer deadline day.

Famous last words.
