Mesut Ozil has admitted that although he’s not as hungry for goals as his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s ambitious in different ways.
The playmaker has made it clear before that he’s happier helping others score than finding the net himself. He’s proven this time and time again, and shown that he’s useful in other ways. In fact, describing him as ‘useful’ is a huge understatement.
Recently, in an interview with L’Equipe, he claimed that he’s a perfectionist on the pitch – just like Ronaldo.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is obviously very ambitious, but so am I,” Ozil said.
“I am a perfectionist on the pitch as well. I want to be successful with everything I do.
“During the time I played alongside Ronaldo [at Madrid], I saw that he always wanted to win everything, even on the training pitch. He is never satisfied and always wants more. He always wants more titles and there are not a lot of players with that attitude.
“Personally, I am not as hungry for goals like Ronaldo. But that’s only normal. He is an attacker. For me, scoring goals and providing assists is the same. They both win you matches.”
Although adding goals to his game would be brilliant, most Arsenal fans are happy with Ozil the way he is. He’s the best no.10 in the world and he’s not only chosen our club, he’s happy with us.
No matter how many people criticise his ‘laziness’, which doesn’t exist, or twist his quotes to make it sound as if he’s saying he’s as good as Ronaldo, Gooners will know differently. He’s not hard to ‘get’. You just have to take him at face value and realise that sometimes, you simply have to appreciate that he loves football more than anything.
