New Roma goalkeeper, Alisson, has given his first press conference for the Serie A team and perhaps revealed that Wojciech Szczesny will be going back on loan – as if we didn’t already know.
Wojciech spent last season on loan at Roma and had a great time; he got plenty of game time and quickly became their first choice pair of safe hands. It was thought that he would return for another spell considering how successful the first year was. However, word was that the talks between Arsenal and Roma broke down due to the Italian club not being willing to pay his wages. Other reports claimed that we were only willing to let him go if it was on a permanent deal.
Alisson, however, seems to have let the cat out of the bag by saying that there will be a rivalry between the two goalkeepers next season.
“As for Szczesny, I’ll say again that it’s not an important matter,” Alisson said.
“He’s strong and he did well. There’s going to be a fair rivalry with him.
“I chose Roma for a simple reason, for the faith that they had in me from the beginning. They offered an excellent working project and this is the right choice for me. My family and I will be very happy in Rome.”
For all we know, Alisson is just assuming and knows nothing but I’d be surprised if Woj isn’t in Italy next season.
