Not only has Lucas Leiva (as well as Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho) been ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Arsenal, now first choice goalkeeper, Loris Karius, has broken his hand!

The goalkeeper broke his hand during Liverpool’s pre-season friendly clash against Chelsea and it’s highly likely that he won’t feature in the opening stages of the new season.

The news will be particularly unwelcome considering they’re already without several key players. Their only comfort is that Arsenal are also without quite a few first team men, such as Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud, as they were involved in the Euros until the final.

Arsenal v Liverpool is usually a huge clash but it looks like this time around we’re going to see two heavily weakened sides. Perhaps this is a chance for the youngsters to show what they’re made of?

See, the football Gods don’t just hate Arsenal!
