With all eyes trained on Riyad Mahrez, Arsenal’s interest in Ben Chilwell has fallen off the radar but it is now being reported that Leicester turned down a £7m offer as they hold out for £10m.

At this point neither Arsenal, nor Liverpool, who are also said to be heavily interested in the England u21 international, are prepared to meet Leicester’s valuation.

Chilwell is a 19-year-old left-back and Arsenal’s interest in him initially seems to throw up real questions about Kieran Gibbs future until you remember that Nacho is 30 and can’t play for ever. Chilwell would be one for the near future.

Born in Bedford, Chilwell only has another 12 months left on his contract and given Leicester’s refusal to budge on price, the player and Arsenal might be best served just letting that expire and then agreeing a deal between them next summer.

Leicester have been trying to get Chilwell to renew his contract but it was reported on Sunday morning that the club have not been able to get him to agree to the extension that is currently on the table.
