If reports from Italy are to be believed, Monday is set to be a massive day in the saga that is Gonzalo Higiuain.

While Arsenal fans everywhere are desperate to believe that the club is in for the player, the majority of the heavy coverage in Italy is focusing on Juventus with Arsenal no more than a side note – not that you would know that given the coverage in the UK.

With the story taking on a life of its own this weekend, I had a closer look at what has really been said and what developments actually happened, and while there’s no doubt Arsenal have been linked, it’s hard to see their interest as anything close to that coming from Turin.

There were even murmurs around on Sunday that Arsene Wenger feels Higuain might be too old (I assume for the sort of money needed to land him as he’s younger than Vardy).

So why is Monday so important? Well, that’s when the Napoli president is set to meet with Juve to discuss the deal.

As we mentioned when we dug right into this transfer, Napoli don’t actually want to sell to Juve so what they’re doing going to speak about the transfer is anyone’s guess.

Should Juve have to pay the full release clause of €94m, Italian reports claim they would have to sell four players in order to do so.

They are believed to have a proposal that would see them make the payments to Napoli in two instalments and the same Italian report claims that while Arsenal would be willing to offer €50m or €60m plus Giroud, nothing official has come from London.

Will have another roundup of all the twists and turns from this story in the morning.
