Although the Arsenal players involved in Euro 2016 gave fantastic performances, for the most part, certain parts of their games summed up our tactical weaknesses.
One example is Olivier Giroud who, against the likes of Iceland, was a key member of the France team, holding off players so Antoine Griezmann could shine and show off his ability. He was a terrific partner and, in turn, his performance excelled.
Against Portugal in the final, however, he wasn’t as effective since Griezmann went missing. He does lack pace and when he didn’t have someone playing off him like his compatriot had been, he looked lost.
This highlights exactly how he was for Arsenal last season and why we should be buying a striker. Not necessarily to replace him, although this may have to be the case, but to play off of him as a partner, just as Griezmann did.
