Fran Merida has signed for Osasuna for a transfer fee believed to be €500k.

The former Arsenal youngster was too impatient to wait for his chance at Arsenal, blocked by Cesc Fabregas who would leave just one year after Merida departed for Atletico Madrid, and others.

Merida leaves Huesca after just 18 months in which he made 59 appearances, scoring eight goals. He signed for them in January 2015 when he was without a club after leaving Altetico Parananense in the summer when his contract had expired.

Despite renewing his contract with the Segunda Division side in December, a release clause was inserted which would allow him to leave if a club from a higher division wanted to sign him. Osasuna play in La Liga.

Merida has previously admitted that it was a mistake to leave Arsenal, saying in 2015, “It was a mistake, I wasn’t patient .

“I realise that now, but I’ve never been a patient person.

“I had some opportunities but the competition was high,” he added. “Arsenal bought Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere into the first-team. Nasri, Fabregas, Rosicky and Denilson were also in my position. It was difficult for me.”

Since leaving Arsenal, Merida has played for Atletico Madrid, SC Braga, Hercules, Altetico Parananense and Huesca.

He is still only 26.
