Despite seeming to land Bolton’s Player of the Season, Rob Holding, Arsenal are apparently interested in bringing in another two young centre backs – Jason Denayer and Matthias Ginter.
According to a report in the Sun, Arsene Wenger wants to lure the players away from Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, respectively, as he continues to look for players who can play along the back four just like Holding.
Then you read past the headline that declares ‘Arsenal transfer news: Gunners in for double swoop for Manchester City’s Jason Denayer and Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter’ and towards the end of the piece they state that Arsenal only want one of them.
Those names may not be too familiar to you so it might help when you realise that Denayer was on the end of Hal Robson-Kanu’s Cruyff turn at the Euros.
The players are said to cost £10m – £15m (Denayer) and £12m (Ginter).
The Sun claim Wenger feels he can tempt Denayer, 21, away from Pep Guardiola as the Spaniard looks to bring in a big name defender however they give no explanation as to why they think that.
They do quote an unnamed City source as saying “Denayer signed a new contract last summer. He is rated at about £15m at the club and is on around £25,000-a-week.
“Arsenal have been interested before just over a year ago but only bid £5m. There was no follow-up offer at the time, but Wenger is a fan.”
About Ginter, 22, they claim Wenger has been scouting him for years and has earmarked him as a long-term replacement for Per Mertesacker who is out of contract next summer.
These rumours have only just popped up so we’ll starting digging now and see if we can find more on them, source the Sun’s source, and work out how reliable they might be.
