Arsenal (and Spurs) have been linked with Koln left-back, Jonas Hector.
The 26-year-old appeared 32 times in the Bundesliga last season and is reported to be worth £17m. Although I’m sure this amount if negotiable, he’s been key for the German national team during the Euros, having featured in every single match in its entirety and scored the winning penalty against Italy to get his country through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, Germany lost 2-0 to France in said semi-final and failed to make the final but that’s beside the point.
It’s entirely possibly that we’re interested in the German. We do seem to be on the hunt for another left-back during this transfer window, with Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez originally being heavily linked and us reportedly trying to intercept Monaco’s signing of Djibril Sidibé.
Would we be willing to pay £17m for a defender? I reckon so, if he’s the right fit for the squad. For whatever reason, the talks with Rodriguez, which seemed to be headed in the right direction, appear to have stalled, broken down or just taken a back seat. It’s unclear right now.
What is clear, however, is that we are on the look-out for a left-back.
