N’Golo Kante seems all set to leave Leicester City after turning down an improved contract but he’s chosen to go to Chelsea over the 101 other European clubs that wanted him.
At one point, I do think we were genuinely interested in the defensive midfielder who was arguably one of Leicester’s stand-out players last season. However, after we signed Granit Xhaka, I highly doubt we pursued the Frenchman any longer. Why would we spend £25m (plus add-ons) on a player if we were going to spend a similar amount on someone in exactly the same position? It’s not Arsenal, or Arsene Wenger’s, style.
According to reports, Kante is more or less confirmed to be off to Chelsea to work under the Blues’ new manager, Antonio Conte. He’s not only turned down an improved £100,000 a week contract with the Foxes, but he’s snubbed advances from Juventus, PSG and Manchester United.
Obviously, the press are lumping us in with that lot but, honestly, I doubt we were interested at this late stage.
