Alexis Sanchez played for Chile against Argentina in the early hours of Tuesday morning (UK time) and lost 2-1, continuing his national side’s run of poor form.

The loss marks Chile’s third defeat on the bounce and they appear to be a shadow of the squad they were last year when they won the Copa America tournament as hosts.

Although Alexis put in a strong performance against the Argentines, he drew a lot of fouls, which will make Arsenal fans very nervous.

Despite not having Lionel Messi on the pitch, Argentina had no trouble scoring. Angel di Maria made it 1-0 just inside the first half and Éver Banega scored the second. Although Chile got a consolation goal through José Pedro Fuenzalida, it was too little too late.

Elsewhere in Group D, Bolivia lost to Panama, putting Argentina firmly in control.
