Alan Smith has urged Jamie Vardy to take the opportunity that’s being handed to him and sign for Arsenal.
Can you believe that it’s only been a week since the Gunners triggered the Leicester City striker’s release clause and kick-started one of the weirdest transfer sagas in recent memory?
The latest on the Vardy-to-Arsenal rollercoaster is that he’s ‘80% likely to stay’ with the Foxes. However, although these whispers have reportedly been coming from the England camp, it seems a little bizarre. Just like this entire story, to be honest. Alan Smith thinks it would be a mistake and that the 29-year-old should sign for Arsenal.
“I know Leicester are in the Champions League but Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the country,” Smith said to talkSPORT.
“I will probably upset Leicester fans, but my advice is I think he should grab it [the chance to join Arsenal].
“The chances are this this kind of opportunity won’t come again and you have got to make the very most of your opportunities during the course of your career.”
I’m still very much confused about whether I think he’ll be coming to north London. On one hand, the longer this rattles on the stronger my gut feeling that he’s not coming grows. However, if he was really staying, wouldn’t it be far easier to placate Leicester fans by telling them already? Why drag this out when surely there can’t be that much to mull over?
If he does pick Leicester, one thing is for certain, whether you want him at Arsenal or not, you have to question his ambition.
