It seems like there’s only really going to be one topic of Arsenal conversation this weekend and that’s Jamie Vardy after it was announced that Arsenal had triggered his release clause, said to be £20m or £22m depending on where you do your reading.

Match of the Day presenter, and former Leicester City player (and, let’s never, ever, forget, Tottenham) took to Twitter when the news broke on Friday evening urging Vardy to remain with the Champions and void the ‘perennial also-rans’.

Of course, leaving aside that until last season Leicester had done nothing of note ever (kind of like Tottenham really in the last 50+ years), I hardly think Lineker’s opinion will hold much sway with Vardy who, at 29, is likely keen to add the final scenes to his movie by playing for a traditional top side.

He might not, but he strikes me as someone who believes his own footballing fairytale and would be keen to push it as far as it can go.

As for Arsenal themselves and this interest in the cheaty one, well, it’s caused a lot of mixed feelings here at Cannon Towers and all our writers are busy working away on a number of Vardy-related pieces that you can catch on the site (or in the Onefootball app) over the weekend.
