Many moons ago, Arsenal were interested in a Fiorentina forward by the name of Stevan Jovetic and now that he’s flopped for Manchester City and Inter Milan it appears we’ve revived our interest.
The 26-year-old joined City in 2013, probably after they got wind that we wanted him. He scored 40 goals in his five years at Fiorentina, and although he wasn’t exactly a world-beater, he was a Montenegro international and could have done well as a squad player.
However, upon signing for City, things didn’t really go according to plan for him. Injury troubles resulted in hardly any playing time and, as a result, he only scored 11 goals during in his entire two seasons there.
An 18-month loan spell was agreed with Inter Milan with the option for the Serie A club to buy Jovetic at the end of the deal. However, after more injury woes and only seven goals in 28 appearances, the Italian press are reporting that Inter don’t want him and could therefore hand the forward back to City six months early. Ouch.
Of course, this is where Arsenal come in. According to Corriere Dello Sport, we want to bring him to north London.
The signing would be just too ‘Arsenal’ to rule out but hopefully Arsene Wenger knows this would be a step back.
Football Italia is claiming that Spartak Moscow are also interested and I’m sure this would be a far better destination for him.
