Arsenal target Granit Xhaka still appears to be edging towards his summer transfer, with the Swiss midfielder’s latest quotes being reported by Bild on Wednesday.

The midfielder is still with Borussia Mönchengladbach as he waits to join up with the Switzerland squad for Euro 2016.

It’s been well reported that Xhaka, set to cost £34m plus add-ons, wants his future sealed before the European Championships begin this summer. He owes Gladbach a lot and respected the club greatly; with a release clause of €30m active next summer, he wouldn’t be against staying one more year if he had to.

That said, he’s clearly eager to move now.

“The circle has been closed,” Xhaka has said (per Bild), with regards to his Borussia Mönchengladbach career.

“There are now daily conversations and there will definitely be a decision before the European Championship.

“I played my first competitive match for Borussia (Mönchengladbach) in the cup in Darmstadt. Four wonderful years followed. Now, possibly, my last game in Darmstadt again – the circle has virtually been closed “.

Xhaka has spoken about a desire to play in England in the past and, barring any late bids, he seems incredibly likely to become an Arsenal player this summer.

Though he previously denied any bids, sporting director Max Eberl is being incredibly open about clubs showing an interest in Xhaka and head coach André Schubert has all but confirmed plans to sell the midfielder.

“There are simply bigger clubs than Gladbach, and therefore, such a leading player is coveted. One way or another, we will have assembled a powerful squad for next year.”

As the club clearly prepare for the departure of a star midfielder, Arsenal need to hurry up and get the deal over the line before Xhaka decides it’s too late to move this summer and Gladbach decide they haven’t been given the time they want to replace him.
