Plenty of questions marks remain over the futures of some of Arsenal’s most disappointing performers after a bleak season and it appears they may be suitors for Olivier Giroud after all.
The Gunners managed to get rid of Lukas Podolski last summer and plenty of fans would be pleased to see the back of fellow forwards Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud in the next few months.
Walcott has been linked with moves to Manchester City or Liverpool but, until now, there have not even been reports that Giroud is being chased.
Step forward VfL Wolfsburg. The former German champions have had a horrible season and currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga with the worst away record in the entire league.
It’s no shock, then, that they have set their sights on improving over the course of the summer.
Last year they replaced Kevin De Bruyne with Julian Draxler, who has impressed, and Max Kruse. The latter hasn’t delivered and Bas Dost has struggled up front on his own.
To add to the misery, Wolfsburg have just released former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner and they may just hope to replace his squad place with someone a little more…professional. Giroud is certainly that.
According to kicker, the Wolves would happily pay Giroud £120k-a-week, a very attractive deal indeed.
No possible fee for Arsenal has been mentioned yet but Giroud is under contract until 2018 and, despite media scrutiny, has scored 20 goals this season. He certainly wouldn’t leave cheaply.
