Despite ending on a high, Arsene Wenger admitted that Arsenal wanted to finish top of the Premier League, not second.
Although we managed to beat the odds and finish second, above Spurs, there’s still the niggling thought at the back of every Gooner’s mind telling them that we should have won it. We should have come first.
Speaking post-match, the boss admitted that this should have been the case.
“We finished second in the league but we wanted to be first,” he said.
“We want to win more.”
Despite not winning the Premier League, second isn’t too bad considering the second half of the season we had. It was only down to Spurs completely bottling their last few matches that we managed to clinch it, but losing 5-1 to Newcastle, who have been relegated, is hilarious. It could have been a different story and at least this is something vaguely positive to end the season on, especially as we’re saying goodbye to Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta.
The issues we have are still there but for the moment, can we just enjoy coming above That Lot?
