Mesut Özil is back in training and able to feature for Arsenal this weekend.
Arsenal face Aston Villa on Sunday in their final Premier League game of the season, hoping to secure third place and possibly even beat north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to second.
Özil missed last weekend’s draw with Manchester City but is available for the Gunners this weekend. He’s a crucial player for Arsenal and could make the difference.
Jack Wilshere played 70 minutes at Manchester City and is eager to play again in a bid to prove his fitness to Roy Hodgson before the England squad for Euro 2016 is announced.
“He can start, he played 70 minutes in a very intense game, he can start,” said Wenger. “I consider him as a player who is ready to play.”
There must be similar thoughts for Santi Cazorla, who hasn’t played a first team game since November but is likely to still be in Vincente del Bosque’s mind ahead of his squad announcement next week.
Any appearance from Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini or Tomas Rosicky would be a farewell from the midfielders, who are set to move on at the end of the season when their contracts end. Wenger said that Welbeck has an ankle problem so may not feature.
