Olivier Giroud and his representatives are reportedly aiming to meet with Arsenal next week in order to hold talks with the club over the striker’s future.
According to L’Equipe, Arsenal is happy with the Frenchman and are confident going forward. However, the meeting itself suggests that perhaps the striker’s representatives are the unsettled ones.
This alleged meeting could be to discuss a number of things. Firstly, Giroud is out of contract in two years, the same as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However, while we’re hearing plenty of media gossip about the latter two, we’re not hearing a great deal about the striker who has been at the club longer than they have. This talk could be to open up negotiations about a new contract or to inquire about why we haven’t. Saying this, the possibility of this is unlikely, considering if the media caught wind that we were trying to sign our ‘out of favour’ (their words, not mine) striker to a new, improved contract before Ozil and Alexis have put pen to paper, they would be all over it.

What’s more likely is that the constant media speculation surrounding Giroud’s future at Arsenal has led him and subsequently his representatives to get a little bit nervous. There’s a thin line between the man’s cocky exterior – the man that cups his ear against Norwich fans when Danny Welbecks scores – and the man that misses open goals and turns his palms up at the sky.
I don’t think Giroud wants to leave; in fact, I think he likes Arsenal and life in London very much. But, as he’s proven multiple times on the pitch, he does need reassurance and someone to put faith in him. The chances are, this is all this meeting is about.
