With the summer transfer window coming up and Arsenal on the lookout for major signings, it’s likely that every major player in Europe will be linked with a move to north London sometime or another.
In recent summers, the Gunners have flexed a financial muscle to pick up world class players being let go by other major clubs: Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez and Petr Čech have all joined Arsène Wenger’s side.
Who’s next?
Well, according to El Confidencial, it could be James Rodriguez.
The Colombian joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 after a superb World Cup campaign and he starred last season under Rafa Benitez.
However, Zinedine Zidane has come in and James clearly isn’t trusted as he once was.
Since mid-February, the attacking midfielder has started just six of Real Madrid’s last 13 La Liga matches, completing 90 minutes on just three occasions despite injuries to Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema at various times. was snubbed in the Champions League
The Colombian was also snubbed in the Champions League ties against Wolfsburg and Manchester City, playing a total of 28 minutes across four meetings. Even Jesé and Lucas Vázquez were called upon before the 24-year-old.
With all that in mind, it seems that his time in Madrid is coming to an end but very few clubs would be able to afford him. The Spanish press seem to think Manchester City and Arsenal would be interested with the attacking midfielder available at a cut price.
We don’t really think this is a move that’s likely to happen, with James preferring to play in Mesut Özil’s position. He could be on the move but the likelihood Arsenal’s money will be spent on other ventures.
