John Hartson’s been on a mad one, claiming that Arsene Wenger is about to spend £150m in the summer transfer window.
The former Arsenal man thinks that, since this is the manager’s final season (potentially) as head coach of the club, he’ll want to go out with a ‘big bang’ and spend all the funds we have available, which is thought to upward of £100m.
Speaking recently, Hartson said, “He’ll spend big and with him having probably just another year there, he’ll think ‘right, I’m going to go out with a big bang’.
“I reckon he’ll think ‘I’m going to spend all this money that’s been given to me’.
“I think he’ll actually spend up to £150m this summer, I really, really do.”
He added, “I’d like them to go and get a Lewandowski, that type of player.”
Would Wenger really go all out and spend £150m? As it stands, the announcement that we’ve officially signed Granit Xhaka is due to be released any day now with other rumours that a deal for Alvaro Morata is also being worked out with Juventus doing the rounds.
We are thought to have paid £30m for Xhaka and have reportedly bid around £38m for Morata. Therefore, if Wenger really wanted to go all out you can see how easily that amount could tot up. However, we haven’t been in this position before. I can’t see him spending that much but what if…?
