Barcelona look set to offer Sergi Samper a new contract to ward off interest from Arsenal and Manchester City according to Sport in Spain.

The youngster, who is a product of the Barcelona youth system, currently has a buyout clause of €12m but as his contract expires next summer, he would be able to sign a pre-agreement with another club for free in January.

This is something Barcelona want to avoid, even though they aren’t entirely sure what they want to do with him themselves.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the young midfielder and allegedly tried again in January to lure him to the Emirates.

The player, however, wants to succeed at Barcelona and is willing to give it every chance, even though he is unlikely to get many minutes with the first team next season.

Barcelona are also said to be considering selling him with a repurchase option included.

Even if Arsenal were to convince Samper to ditch Barcelona for London, it all smacks of a player who would forever be pining for a return home, and we all know how annoying that got with Cesc Fabregas.

No thanks.
