With fans at Arsenal desperate for a new star striker, the name Sehrou Guirassy isn’t likely to excite too many of the Emirates Stadium faithful.

A 20-year-old forward, Guirassy has caught the eye in the second half of the season as Arsenal look around Europe for a striker to lead the club to glory.

Contracted to Lille, Guirassy has spent the second half of the season on loan with Ligue 2 club Auxerre, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances for the midtable side.

It’s an impressive return for a young striker and Guirassy, according to ESPN, has caught Arsenal’s attention with his strong form.

Guirassy is of Ivorian descent but plays for the France u20s and, after Wenger was supposedly informed of him by connections in France, Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley has been sent out to France to watch the youngster.

Having signed for Lille for under £400k last summer, it’s unlikely he’d be too expensive but the French club may hope to have him develop further with them before selling him on for a tidy profit.

The last striker Arsenal signed who played for Auxerre was Yaya Sanogo, currently on loan at Charlton, who arrived for free almost three years ago.

Sanogo’s Arsenal career has struggled to take off and fans wouldn’t be too pleased to see another unknown Frenchman arrive.
