Despite rumours that Arsenal are having trouble tying Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez down to new contracts, Arsene Wenger insists that they want to stay.
Wenger has always said that we won’t discuss new contracts properly with the two star players until the season is over. However, despite this, the media are claiming that they want out with Ozil being linked with a move back to Real Madrid and the Chilean rumoured to be going to Bayern Munich.
Apparently this isn’t the case.
“These two players have two years on their contracts at the end of the season,” Wenger said.
“We are not in a hurry. We are talking and the players are very keen to stay.”
As Wenger acknowledged, both players have two years left on their existing contracts so there’s no huge rush to tie them down. Still, that hasn’t stopped most Gooners from getting antsy considering our form. Most are concerned that without winning anything this season and no progression in terms of the Premier League, the world class players will be running for the exit.
I’m sure this isn’t the case and I’m positive we can do enough to tie them down for few more seasons at least.
