Arsene Wenger had his say on Mesut Ozil’s comments that Arsenal have screwed up the League and said that it’s not his job to talk.
Mesut Ozil recently commented on Arsenal’s title hopes and revealed that he thinks we’ve screwed up this season. He added that we have no one to blame but ourselves and that we need to do better. When asked about the playmaker’s comments ahead of our Premier League clash with Watford, the boss seemed a little frosty.
“At the moment we focus on getting out best and at the end of the season we’ll judge the season,” he said.
“We have been involved in many competitions so it wasn’t always easy and we had many injuries. That was an important moment of the season but let’s not judge too much; our job is to perform until the last day of the season so let’s do our job. That’s most important and not to talk too much. Talking is not our job, performing is our job and at the moment we focus on that.”
Wenger is renowned for discouraging his players from talking too openly in the press. This is most likely why we get the standard ‘bouncing back’ quotes whenever we have a bad result. Our squad are media trained and criticism, no matter how true, is obviously not appreciated. However, the boss does have a point. If actions speak louder than words, we need to perform on the pitch and not just speak to the press.
