Selected by his fellow Premier League players for the PFA Team of the Year on Thursday, Héctor Bellerín followed up the news with a superb performance against West Bromwich Albion.
The right-back was in superb form, defending when he had to but consistently provided an offensive threat too, stretching West Brom when the Gunners went forward.
Performances like that are what Bellerín has built a reputation on and Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger is proud of the 20-year-old.
“The positive of the season is that Héctor has been consistent,” Wenger said. “He was outstanding in the first half as well.
Linking up with Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sánchez in particular, Bellerín consistently helped Arsenal threaten down the right.
On the opposite wing, Alex Iwobi had another strong display and Wenger wants him to look at Bellerín’s progress as an example.
“He was like Iwobi last year, that means he came into the squad and continued to develop. For Iwobi, that’s a good way to follow, to move even a step up next season.”
After establishing himself in the second half of last season, Bellerín has become clear first choice at the back for Arsenal and Iwobi will do well to emulate his teammate as soon as next season.
The Nigerian could be an Arsenal regular a year from now but, for the time being, congratulations to Héctor for the recognition he’s received.
