Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is not sure if Theo Walcott will still be at Arsenal next season after suffering a ‘bad spell’ this campaign.

The admission from Wenger is surprising as he is normally a lot more coy than this, but when asked about the Englishman’s future, Wenger said “I don’t know yet [if Walcott will leave in the summer].

“I’m not in transfer mode at the moment but I think he has gone through a bad spell.

“He has responded very well, because he said: ‘OK, I will work harder and more.’ When he comes on now, you see he is motivated and focused.

“Let’s see how well he finishes the season.”

Walcott, who is now 27 and quickly running out of time to become the player he already thinks he is, has found himself on the bench for the last 10 of the last 11 league games, playing a total of just 171 minutes (approx 15.5 minutes per game, a number higher than it should be because he played 63 minutes against United, take that game out and he has averaged 10.8 minutes over the other 10 games).

With five goals and three assists in the league in 26 appearances, his stats are poor yet still manage to belie a terrible campaign which has seen him look disinterested at best, prompting many fans to reach the end of their tether with him.

He has nine goals and seven assists in 40 appearances (including Community Shield), a direct goal involvement rate of one every 126 minutes.

Under contract until 2019, after two contract renewal sagas which saw the player demand more and more cash and hold the club to ransom, you’d be hard pushed to find a single person who thinks that Walcott has done enough to warrant his status as the third highest player at the club.

In fact, his behaviour around his last two contracts is a big reason why so many fans are fed up with him.

Will he go in the summer? Maybe.

Will many people care? Not really.
