Arsenal fans are all too well aware that they don’t seem to get much luck when the side turn out in their gold away kit.

Well, now you don’t have to just rely on your eyes and intuition, as Buytshirtsonline have compiled the data and playing in gold is a really bad idea.

According to their research, burgundy is the best colour to play in if you want to collect a lot of points, a fact that was helped when Arsenal wore a shirt that was technically redcurrant in 05/06 (but has been classed as burgundy ) and averaged 2.36 points per game (1.6 without Arsenal’s shirt). *memories*

Burgundy also sees the most goals per game scored, averaging 1.5 compared to red at 1.46. Teams in green, however, play like this current Arsenal team in front of goal (0.93).

Oddly, pink comes in second but that’s due to a significantly smaller sample size (Everton’s 2010 away shirt) and doesn’t include Szczesny’s pink highlighter kit that he hated so much.

Red is third, followed by blue, white, black, grey (despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s claims), purple, yellow, green and then orange.

Coming up in last place is gold which averages just 0.12 points per game.

Leicester played in gold last season and failed to win a single away point in that shirt, so it’s not just Arsenal.

Teams in gold also concede the highest number of goals per game – 1.88.
