It’s a pretty weird situation to be in as an Arsenal fan, as we really aren’t used to Spurs being taken seriously.
Our north London rivals are arguably favourites in the title race now, and it makes Saturday’s derby even more meaningful than it usually is.
Hoping to win the league ourselves, you’d usually want Leicester City to drop points but if the Gunners lose at White Hart Lane many fans will hope Leicester win their game over the weekend to stop Spurs winning the title. Arsène Wenger, however, doesn’t feel the same.
“I never understood that,” said the Arsenal boss, who doesn’t care who wins the league if it isn’t the Gunners. “You want to do well because you want to win for yourselves and you want to feel that you’ve given absolutely everything to win after that you do not choose who else wins it.
“Sport is about the guys who deserve it win it, it’s not the identity that’s important here what’s important if you give absolutely your best to be on top of everybody else.”
That might not go down to well with fans who are already on Wenger’s back. However, win on Saturday and all will be forgiven. Even the last two poor performances.
If we lose we fall six points behind Spurs and that situation is, to be completely frank, unthinkable.
