Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could be on the way to Liverpool at the end of the season if AS Roma don’t make a permanent bid to sign the on-loan goalkeeper.
Currently on international duty with Poland, Szczesny has had a fairly successful season on loan with Roma but has been inconsistent at times. The Italians don’t expect to have him next season so have signed Brazilian talent Alisson to play in goal after the summer but still hope a deal for Szczesny could be possible.
Unfortunately for them, Arsenal are unlikely to be open to loaning out the goalkeeper once more and would look to keep him in north London or sell him on permanently.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Szczesny would be interested in extending his stay in the Italian capital. The 25-year-old is hoping to become number one at Arsenal again one day and seems prepared to keep improving while he waits for the opportunity. Arsenal, however, may not have the patience.
It means that a permanent transfer could be on the cards and, if so, Roma won’t be the destination. Instead, Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the talented stopper, who has already appeared in 181 Arsenal games.
Should Arsenal look to sell Szczesny, he is unlikely to have offers from many clubs as prestigious and ambitious as Liverpool, where he would almost certainly be first choice immediately ahead of error-prone Belgian Simon Mignolet.
Should Arsenal sell David Ospina, Szczesny could come back to the Emirates Stadium as Čech’s understudy but that might not be enough to satisfy a talented stopper approaching his best years.
