Danny Drinkwater may have won man of the match on his England debut on Tuesday but Jermaine Jenas would still rather see Jack Wilshere at Euro 2016.

The Arsenal midfielder is yet to feature this season but is essentially guaranteed to head to France with England if he can get back on the pitch before the season is over.

Incredibly, Wilshere has won man of the match in six of his last seven England appearances and, if he could get fit, would be a cert for former Spurs midfielder Jenas’s squad.

“If Jack Wilshere is fit then he goes to the Euros. I’d take him over Danny Drinkwater,” Jenas said after England’s 2-1 loss to the Netherlands on Tuesday evening. “I don’t think Jack is naturally a holding midfielder but neither is Drinkwater, he’s more box to box.

“They’re both uncomfortable in the holding role but I’d personally pick Jack.”

Wilshere played in that position for the Three Lions for the majority of the qualifying campaign and was impressive as he was allowed to express himself.

Back in August, a fracture to the left fibula ruled Wilshere out for a number of months. Since he has required an operation on the injury and has suffered a number of setbacks. With the end of the season approaching Wilshere is supposedly close to a return again, but how long will he take to hit form?

Jenas also told listeners he would take Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck but Theo Walcott would miss out if he was picking the squad.
