Missing Nigeria training on Tuesday, there was some speculation as to whether Alex Iwobi was injured or unwell.

The 19-year-old has made a name for himself in recent weeks, making a full Champions League debut and a full Premier League debut in Arsenal’s last two games before heading off for international duty.

It was a small concern, then, to learn he had gone to the hospital while with the Nigeria squad. The midfielder was suffering from food poisoning and is a doubt for the Super Eagles’ game against Egypt as a result. However, he feels he’ll be fit to play.

Iwobi confirmed the bout of food poisoning on Twitter no Tuesday evening but appears to be in good spirits. Why wouldn’t he be? A start at Camp Nou against Barcelona on Wednesday, a first Arsenal goal on Saturday, all followed by another call-up to represent his country.

Should he play in Nigeria’s two games against Egypt over the course of the next week, Iwobi will come up against new club teammate Mohamed Elneny who has had a successful month or two with Arsenal himself.

The game will surely interest Gooners, but for now let’s just hope both players return with no complications.
