Luis Boa Morte has warned Arsenal fans to look at Manchester United when they are calling for Arsene Wenger’s head and to be ‘careful what you wish for’.

Wenger has been under pressure for a number of seasons but this year it intensified as the Gunners seemed to falter in a wide-open title race with only Tottenham and Leicester as serious rivals.

Although a win at Everton steadied the listing ship, it might be too late to claw back Leicester’s lead, leading to many to call for Wenger to go.

A former player under Wenger and now club scout, Boa Morte, was clear in his message.

“I believe in the boss. For sure he is going to be there next season.

“Arsene Wenger created the philosophy we have at Arsenal. People can talk and protest but I don’t remember any other manager being an Invincible.

“Be careful what you wish for. Look at Manchester United after Ferguson left, who has been successful? Nobody. It is the same thing.

“We can see United’s results and where they are in the table. Things didn’t work out, not because David Moyes and Louis van Gaal are bad managers but Ferguson created a pattern, a way to play. They couldn’t make the team work the same way.

“Something happened for sure because they stopped winning and now they are struggling to finish in the top four.”

Boa Morte is hoping to move into management himself and is close to completing his UEFA A licence, one of a number of former Wenger players to obtain a coaching licence.

He made 40 appearances for Arsenal after arriving for £1.75m from Sporting Club de Portugal.

He returned to work for the club in October after coaching youth sides at Sporting.
