Arsenal produced yet another poor display and got knocked out to Watford in the FA Cup.
This season we were supposed to win the double. We have fantastic players and, apart from our first game when we lost 2-0 to West Ham, we were playing some great stuff.
Somewhere along the road we started rolling backwards and now we find ourselves several injuries deep, eight points off the top of the League, out of the FA Cup and all but out of the Champions League.
With key players just not showing up in these matches, watching Arsenal is becoming painful.
David Ospina – 5
The goalkeeper came out to claim any threats and was generally solid in the first half. He couldn’t have done much for the either Watford goal, considering how our defence gave him no help at all and the second was an absolute rocket.
Calum Chambers – 5
The right-back got forward repeatedly and appeared far more confident on the ball than he has in the past. He also tracked his player well and had a great first half down the flank. However, he deteriorated in the second half and became sloppy.
Gabriel – 0
Terrible. Not only should he have been sent off early on for a two-footed challenge on Troy Deeney, but he again went lunging in minutes later. He was also marking Ighalo way too tightly for the goal, allowing the goalscorer to twist away and score with ease.
Per Mertesacker – 5.5
Considering how poorly everyone else played, as well as his own form, the BFG was fantastic in the first half. He prevented two goals because of his superb positioning. However, he and Gabriel were playing as if they didn’t know each other, which resulted in some very odd decisions.
Kieran Gibbs – 5
Gibbo hung back while Chambers got forward and appeared to be keeping his shape well. However, when it came to Watford scoring, he allowed Ighalo all the space in the world and didn’t even attempt to move to him.
Mohamed Elneny – 5.5
The midfielder was dictating play and even had a few (poor) shots. He’s looking like a great signing, despite the poor result.
Francis Coquelin – 5
The Frenchman was nowhere to be seen for Watford’s goal and was static for most of the game.
Mesut Ozil – 7
Our best player by far. He made Ake look like a fool in the first half as he skilled past him in the box. He put pass after pass on a plate for numerous Arsenal players but no one was on his level until Welbeck scored in the dying minutes. Too little, too late.
Alexis Sanchez – 4.5
The Chilean is making me sad. What happened to him? His decision making was strange and he couldn’t seem to hang onto the ball at all.
Joel Campbell – 5
Not the forward’s best game. He was dispossessed a couple of times and appeared to just be running into space with no real plan at times.
Olivier Giroud – 5
Once again the big guy failed to hit the target.
SUBS
Theo Walcott – 0
Didn’t touch the ball.
Alex Iwobi – 4
The forward potential but not a lot of time to make a difference.
Danny Welbeck – 5
His goal was nice.
