Impressing at the base of Napoli’s midfield this season, Brazilian-born Jorginho signed a new contract in December to keep him in Naples until 2020.

Napoli will look for huge offers to prise him away, but his future remains up in the air as he would be sold if big bids did come in. Arsenal didn’t make a bid to tempt the club into selling in January, but interest shown by the Gunners has been confirmed by Joao Santos, the midfielder’s agent.

“Interest from Arsenal? It’s true,” Santos said to Radio Kiss. “After the game against Palermo, compliments arrived from Real Madrid as well.

“Only compliments, nothing more. But it’s pleasing to receive expressions of respect from one of the most prestigious clubs in the world.”

Well then, that’s troubling. If Real Madrid want the 24-year-old they would be able to blow any Arsenal bid out of the water.

A smart defensive player, Jorginho is impressive on the ball and has helped Napoli control matches this season, positioning himself smartly to evade and overcome opposition pressure before setting up attacks with his calm and intelligent passing ability.

The summer is approaching fast and the midfielder is hoping to play for Italy at Euro 2016 – right now a transfer isn’t on the agenda.

“For the future, we’ll wait for the end of the season,” said Santos. “Jorginho wants to win the Scudetto with Napoli, he’s enthusiastic about these last nine finals. I want to reiterate that his priority is Napoli.”

Then why confirm interest from other clubs? Sure his interest is on Napoli, for now.
