With reports around everywhere that Mesut Ozil has rejected a contract extension at Arsenal with a load of other clubs circling, the Express are reporting that he is actually in line to agree a new £180k-per-week deal.

Currently the highest earner at Arsenal on around £140kpw, Ozil has been simply sensational this season and, call me cynical, but it seems like no coincidence that stories of other clubs being interested and quotes from his agent are starting to appear with negotiations about to get underway.

Sadly, the claims come from the website ‘Football insider’ which, if I remember correctly, is run by Wayne Veysey (or at least he is heavily connected) and his track record is far from flawless unless it comes to current team news ahead of a game.

If I had to guess what way this would all play out, I would confidently predict that Ozil will sign a new deal with Arsenal and stay at the club.

What reason does he have to leave? He’s in a city he says he likes, he’s worshipped by the fans (who don’t believe the media who constantly say he was poor for his first two seasons). He’s playing regularly, a key component in the squad and one of the players Wenger trusts the most.

He’s also won a trophy in each of his first two seasons with the club.

Just saying.
