Arsenal have signed Josie Henning, but who, exactly, is she?
The tall 26-year-old German centre-back is a very experienced defender and has been successful at club and international level.
Her honours list is very impressive and Arsenal Ladies are signing up a world class centre-back that is very calm, reads the game well and is strong technically.
Here is her full list of honours:
Women’s Champions League
2010, 2013, 2014 Runner-up 2015
Frauen Bundesliga
2010, 2011, 2013, 2014
DFB Pokal
2013
Euros
2013
She was signed by PSG prior to the 2014/15 season, but her career with the French club was troubled by recurring injuries.
She only played 22 games for the French club in her first season there – 15 games in the League, one in the French Cup and six in the Champions League.
Her 2015/16 season game was a write off, as she played no games for the French club, before cancelling her contract by mutual agreement.
Henning was said to be going back regularly to Germany to try to heal and solve her hip and knee injury problems and there is no doubt that playing the FIFA 2015 WC on 3G pitches in Canada aggravated her regular knee problems.
If Josie can get back to full fitness, she will be the first name on the teamsheet at centre-back and will partner either Jemma Rose or Casey Stoney.
With Vyan Sampson, Lotte-Wubben-Moy and potentially Leah Williamson also ready to challenge for a place, we can help but wonder if Pedro Losa expects to play a back three system in the near future.
