With Serge Gnabry still waiting to head out on loan, it looks like he’ll end up in the Championship until the end of the season.

The loan window is still open and, after approached for the German were rejected on deadline day, Arsène Wenger has insisted he would still like Gnabry to get some playing time somewhere.

One of those failed deadline day approaches came from Championship side Fulham, and it has emerged that Arsenal tried to do a deal to sign one of their highly talented young players. Left-sided England u16 captain Ryan Sessegnon is on the books with the west London club, but Arsenal’s offer to include him in some sort of Gnabry loan deal was rejected.

Sessegnon, who can play left-back or on the left wing, has caught the eye of a number of youth clubs and the deal fits with Arsenal, who were interested in signing Tyrone Mings last year and were linked with Ben Chilwell again over the course of the last month. With Nacho Monreal extending his Arsenal contract until 2019 and Kieran Gibbs already 26, it looks like Arsenal are looking ahead for their next long-term left-back.

There are no obvious left-backs in the Arsenal youth ranks and the Gunners have hugely stepped up their youth recruitment over the last year. The search for a young left-back gives a lot of weight to the idea that we have enquired about Sessegnon, so it’s a rumour worth keeping an eye on.
