Supposed Arsenal target, Granit Xhaka, has made light of the rumours surrounding his move to north London.
The Borussia Monchengladbach man joked with German magazine, Tor Fabrik, that if he was to hypothetically go to Arsenal, he would want the number 34 shirt, which Francis Coquelin currently holds.
Although Xhaka is obviously comfortable enough to have a bit of a giggle about the link, his father recently refused to rule out a move for the defensive midfielder saying that anything was possible.
Also, the Monchengladbach sporting director, Max Eberl, appears anxious that Xhaka will leave in the summer.
So far this season, the 23-year-old has already made 23 appearances for Monchengladbach and even scored three goals in that time. Therefore, he’s obviously an integral part of the Bundesliga team. However, with his contract set to run up until 2019 and a buy-out clause said to be in the realm of €30m, which becomes active in 2017, it’s not looking as if we’ll be splashing out on the Swiss international.
In addition, after the recent signing of Mohamed Elneny and Coquelin returning from injury, it’s doubtful that we’re even looking at enough player in his position.
We shall see.
