On Wednesday, West Ham announced the signing of 22-year-old Leeds right-back, Sam Byram, but what does this mean for Carl Jenkinson who’s currently on loan in east London?
Jenko is currently running down his second successive loan spell with the Hammers and although he made 36 appearances in his first season, with the majority of them being for the entire match, this time around his time on the pitch is dwindling.
The right-back has gradually been edged out by Tomkins and now with Byram, who appeared 39 times for Leeds last season, it’s looking even less likely that the 23-year-old will be able to get a game.

Does this mean that instead of selling him, as was rumoured in the summer, we could be looking to bring Jenko back home to north London?
Mathieu Debuchy already has one foot out the door after getting fed up of sitting on our bench behind the younger Hector Bellerin, with a move to Aston Villa seemingly on the cards. Jenko won’t have any such complaints. In fact, so huge is the Englishman’s love of Arsenal, that I’m sure he’d return just to pass out oranges at half time.
With Calum Chambers appearing to prefer playing higher up the pitch, we do need a back-up right-back. The only issue is whether Jenko is good enough now to fill that position.
