Patrick Vieira has admitted that although he never received any offers to coach at Arsenal, he expected there to be.
Speaking after recently being appointed manager of the new MLS club, NYCFC, the former Manchester City and Arsenal midfielder said that we haven’t contacted him over taking up a role at Colney. However, he revealed he was a little surprised at this.
“I’ve never been contacted by anyone to manage or get involved with [Arsenal],” Vieira said.
“I was expecting something from them, but it didn’t come. It didn’t kill me.”
This isn’t the first time the former midfielder has mentioned not being spoken to by Arsenal and it does make me wonder if there’s a little bitterness from either side. After all, Vieira did join City. However, I’d imagine if the man could strengthen our club in any way, we would be made the call.
It’s also a little odd that Vieira is admitting that he thought we’d have wanted him. I mean no disrespect to the legend, but it’s a little presumptuous. He was a fantastic player and is clearly a capable manager, but assuming we would have just taken him on board is a tad strange in my opinion.
