Wojciech Szczesny’s manager at Roma, Rudi Garcia, has been sacked.

The Frenchman, who was at the Serie A club from 2013, has been under pressure recently since failing to win more than once since November (and even this was to Genoa, who are now in 17th place).

The club issued a statement from Roma President, Jim Pallotta, saying:

“On behalf of myself and everyone at AS Roma, I’d like to thank Rudi Garcia for all of his hard work since joining the club. We’ve all enjoyed some great moments during his time at Roma but we believe that this is the right time for a change.”

While Woj is only on a season-long loan at Roma, the club were said to want to extend this. It’ll be interesting to see whether a new manager also wants to keep the goalkeeper at the club, especially since both Garcia’s assistants, Frederic Bompard and Claude Fichaux, have also been given the boot.

It’ll also be intriguing to see if the Debuchy to Roma rumours persist now that his former manager is no longer at the club. The ex-Lille manager has been the reason for recent murmurings surrounding Debuchy’s move to Italy and without him there, it’s doubtful that Roma will still be interested.
