Reports in the Swiss media are claiming that Arsenal will sign Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel for a transfer fee said to be in the region of 10m Swiss Francs.

For those who aren’t quite up-to-speed on the current exchange rate, that comes in just under £7m (£6.9m to be precise on today’s rate).

There were other reports which claimed the fee would run into the ‘tens of millions’ and while these did seem to refer to Swiss francs, it’s hard to see Arsene Wenger parting with that sort of money for Elneny who has just three years experience in a European league.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday ahead of the game against Sunderland, Arsene Wenger admitted that the transfer was ‘complicated’ but still hoped to get it sorted within the next few days.

Elneny could be signed and ready for the game against Liverpool at Anfield in midweek but we are unlikely to see him turn out so soon after arriving in the country – unless injuries force Wenger’s hand which would seem unlikely…although not totally improbably given Arsenal’s track record in that area.
