Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger came under intense scrutiny this summer after he failed to bring a world class striker to the Emirates Stadium.
Although they have coped well with just Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott so far this season, the Gunners would be wise to act in January as the Premier League title race heats up.
Arsenal are one of the leading contenders to win the title this season and Coral are offering 13/8 in the Premier League betting for Wenger’s men to go all the way. With a bit of luck, they could do it but another top striker would certainly enhance their chances.
Without a doubt, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the most ‘gettable’ striker in Europe. The Borussia Dortmund star has been on fire in recent months and has already netted 24 goals in just 22 appearances so far this season.
He has been a key reason for Dortmund’s resurgence and his performances have attracted the attention of Europe’s elite clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus. The Gunners can ill-afford to wait until the summer and MUST act in January if they are to secure his services.
As previously mentioned, Arsenal are 13/8 in Coral’s Premier League betting markets but would the players even rate their chances this season? So far, the Gunners have been keen to play down their title aspirations but they certainly have a strong enough squad to win the title.
However, the addition of Aubameyang would not only bring insurance and cover for injuries, but also offer a different dimension in attack. While Giroud is strong and dangerous in their air, Aubameyang’s sheer speed and directness makes him a real handful for defenders.
The Gunners have been far too tentative in recent transfer windows and Wenger must act now if Arsenal are to seriously challenge Manchester City’s dominance this season. City have struggled in recent weeks but will improve with the return of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
If Aubameyang was to join Arsenal, he would bring an estimated ten goals to the Emirates Stadium – which could be absolutely crucial in the overall title race. City prefer to lead from the front, however they are capable of crumbling under pressure.
Arsenal haven’t won the league since 2004 and Wenger will be desperate to bring the trophy back to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners can go all the way this year and, if they sign Aubameyang, you’d have to make them well placed for a title push in the second half of the campaign.
