A win against Sunderland in the Premier League is just what Arsenal needed to ensure we’re prepared to face Olympiacos midweek, insists Wenger.

The boss believes that due to the sheer volume of injuries we’ve had recently, to pull back a win against the Black Cats despite our poor first half, shows we’re prepared to face Olympiacos in the Champions League.

“It’s been a good day for us, because we have won the game and that makes helps us prepare for Olympiacos,” the boss said.

“Secondly it puts us in an interesting position again and that’s all positive.”

Arsenal need a goal difference of at least two to secure progression into the knock-out stages. Any less and we could be heading straight for the Europa League, which would be far from ideal. I’m sure most would rather we didn’t feature in Europe at all.

Has the win against Sunderland really prepared us for the next challenge?

It’s bound to have boosted our confidence and shown we’re capable of winning ugly but there are still a lot of creases that need to be ironed out. Our defensive display wasn’t great and individual mistakes almost cost us. However, hopefully the squad will be positive and ready to fight midweek.
