Yaya Sanogo has only made six appearances for Ajax since going out on loan from Arsenal at the beginning of the season and is yet to play a whole game.
A groin injury has kept him sidelined and he’s had to make do with playing for the youth squad to regain some of his fitness.
The 22-year-old, who we got on a free from Auxerre, simply hasn’t been good enough for Arsenal and although we’ve sent him out on loan to Crystal Palace and Ajax, he’s only scored once. This is hardly enough to even begin troubling Olivier Giroud, who scored his 14th goal in 24 appearances on Sunday against Aston Villa.
Saying this, Sanogo’s Ajax teammate, defender Joel Veltman, believes the striker will come good.
“Yaya Sanogo is developing well,” he said.
“Maybe he looks a bit lanky, but he’s strong, fast and a good header of the ball.”
It’s good to see teammates supporting him while he’s away. It’s not pleasant to hear of one of our players struggling with his career and although he’s not good enough for Arsenal, I hope he finds his level somewhere and gets regular football.
