Theo Walcott made his first start since returning from injury against Aston Villa on Sunday and had a decent game but insisted that most of Arsenal’s success so far this season has been down to new goalkeeper, Petr Cech.
The forward scored a goal, which was wrongly ruled offside, just before half time and continued to be a threat throughout. However, another important part of the win was our clean sheet. This clean sheet allowed Cech to equal David James’ record and provided another example of why he’s world class.
Speaking after the 2-0 win in the league over Aston Villa, Theo praised the former Chelsea man, saying, “From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was [after] what he achieved at Chelsea.
“On a personal level, for him it’s great.
“He’s changed us completely in that back four. He’s a talker, he believes in us all.
“That’s why he wanted to join us and having with that presence behind you is always nice to have. He’s very commanding, he’s a leader in the dressing room as well, he always likes to talk.”
Theo’s not the first to talk about Cech’s communication skills. Numerous plays have spoken about how proactive he is in the dressing room and how crucial his experience in the game has been to our season so far. Having such a talented player truly believe in the team must be a huge boost for everyone – and it’s clearly working.
