Reports are doing the rounds linking Arsenal with rising Napoli star Jorginho

The reports all stem from some comments made by Jorginho’s agent (Joao Santos) that have been picked up by the Metro who have then been kind enough to deceptively title their article in a contradiction to what the agent actually says:

“I do not know if Arsenal scout were in Genoa for Jorginho, but I’m not surprised that the player, especially in light of the change of coach, is going very well and has important clubs interested in him.

“One of the Arsenal scouts is well-known so I know that he was at the ground during the game.”

Jorginho isn’t the only Napoli player to have been linked with Arsenal in recent days. But given that he’s an on-form defensive midfielder, it’s a pretty good assumption that Arsenal will have him on their radar and will have had him watched.

At just 23 years old, he’s got his best years in front of him but the problem (as ever) comes in price and availability. Napoli are flying high in Serie A and will not be wanting to lose any of their top stars. There will be a hefty premium for his signature in January and as his agent also said:

“I think Jorginho is more interested in Napoli than the transfer market.”

It’s not a guarantee that Jorginho would actually want to leave mid-season. Still, it’s another player to add to the defensive midfield shortlist that currently contains Lars Bender, Ruben Neves and William Carvalho.

And just as a heads up, this story has now started to break in Italy using The Metro story as its source. The next stage will probably be a denial from Napoli that Jorginho is going anywhere and with Napoli at home to Legia Warsaw in the Europa League on Thursday night it could well come in a pre or post news conference.
