Into the Champions League round of 16 and top of the Premier League, it’s been a good week for Arsenal.
Goals from Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey on Sunday afternoon sent the Gunners top of the league as Arsenal won 2-0 against Aston Villa.
“It was really important for us to finish off a good week,” said the Welsh midfielder. “We did the job today.”
After winning yesterday, Manchester City briefly went above Arsenal and Leicester to top the table. The Foxes play Chelsea on Monday night, but Sunday’s win means Arsenal will be top of the league at least until then.
“We took advantage of the possibility of going top of the league again so we’re delighted with that,” Ramsey added. But can Arsenal keep it up?
“Of course we believe that we have an opportunity, we’ve shown so far that we’re capable of what we’re doing and we just have to continue doing that.
“This is a busy part of the season, we just have to maintain our focus and belief and get through this period and who knows what can happen in the second half (of the season), we believe we can challenge for ttrophies and we’ll be up for it.”
A week after the win against Aston Villa, Arsenal welcome Manchester City to the Emirates Stadium for the biggest game of the season so far.
That match is the first of the Christmas period, and the first of four games in just 13 days. It’s a huge run and a big test, but pour good form heading into Christmas is nothing but positive.
